You Are Enough πŸ’™

I recently tweeted this:

Dear Therapist, I know it’s tempting to compare yourself to colleagues: to their accomplishments, their website, their social media, their skills, their side gigs, etc, etc. Please know you are enough and you don’t need to be doing all the things!

It seemed to resonate with many, and I'm not surprised. Underneath our layers of burnout, stress, compassion fatigue, depression, and/or anxiety, is the ever-present question, "Am I enough?" (Spoiler: You! Are! Enough!) I find this question to be fairly universal amongst all humans - I'm sure you've discussed this theme with many of your clients. This is partly why exploring Self as Therapist is so important.

On a very related note, I just listened to this podcast from Clearly Clinical (you can pay for CEUs, and otherwise the episodes are free to listen to) with Megan VanMeter, LPC, LHMC who is an art therapist who shares thoughts and ideas for, "nurturing yourself beyond self-care." She and the host are virtually rolling their eyes at the term, "self-care" and their disdain for it is clear. I get it- the term, "self-care" is over-used, misunderstood, and definitely not enough/not the whole picture. Megan refers to Person as Therapist (which I call Self as Therapist) -anyway, it's a great listen with some ideas beyond the typical.

Next week I'm off to Asheville to attend a retreat for therapists to learn how to host retreats for therapists! I can't wait to go and then tell you about it! I also am so excited to plan (tentatively in the Fall of 2024) to host my first retreat to offer to you!!

Take care of yourself today,

Welcome to the πŸ§₯ Cardigan Club πŸ§₯ Put on your fav cardigan, grab your beverage, get cozy, and enjoy! Checking In I started to write a whole thing about boundaries and timeliness in sessions, which is what we discussed in our last live meet-up. It was a great discussion! It's an important topic, but right now I just want to check in on you and how you're doing. How's your wellness, your mental health, your self-care? How are YOU doing right now? There is such distressing and horrifying news...

Cardigan Club I'm going to be honest and vulnerable: I have no idea what to say right now, except this. I don't want to make it about me (more than I already have, lol)...but I know others are going through similar circumstances, so here goes:I've had COVID for the past 2 weeks. This has been scary, frustrating, and hard for a number of reasons. I definitely have noticed less energy. I made the decision to postpone and reschedule my EMDR training, the main thing I was going to give focus to...
